isik-logosThe 2009 Indigenous Studies & Indigenous Knowledge Conference will be held in Perth, 30 November and 1 December 2009, and hosted by the School of Indigenous Studies, University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame.

The 2009 Conference follows on from the three previous conferences:

  • 2008 – Riawunna, Centre for Indigenous Education, University of Tasmania, Hobart
  • 2007 – Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning, University of Technology, Sydney
  • 2006 – Oodgeroo Unit, Queensland University of Technology, Gold Coast

A key purpose of the ISIK Conferences is to draw colleagues from across the field of education and research to discuss and share developments in areas of Indigenous knowledge and Indigenous Studies.

Conference Themes

The 2009 conference title is "Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Knowledge: Dialogue or Conflict in the Academy?".

The program will focus on the following themes or topics:

  • Indigenous Knowledge and Western Science: Knowledge in Conflict?
  • Indigenous Studies: Implementation in the Academy
  • Stories and Storytelling: Indigenous Knowledge in the Academy
  • Healing People and Healing Country

Invitation: Call for Papers

Papers are now being called for on any of the conference topics listed above.

The conference is seeking papers by Indigenous people. Non-Indigenous speakers who are interested in presenting are invited to co-present with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Please email the conference organisers to register your interest in presenting a paper, and include a short abstract of the paper. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 31 August.
